The Heat is on

The big news today in the (North American) world of sports is that LeBron James, the biggest name in basketball, will be playing for the Miami Heat next year.

Miami fans celebrate the news.

For those of you unfamiliar with "King James," he is a 6'8", 250 pound monster and basketball superstar. He has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers his whole career, but became a free agent (meaning he is free to sign with whichever team he chooses). He decided to go to Miami beacuse, in his words, "I feel this is going to give me the best opportunity to win." (The Cavs made it to the finals with LeBron, but were never able to go all the way.)

Fans in Cleveland are saddened and angry, perhaps none more than Cavaliers' owner Dan Gilbert (pictured right). "He quit," he said. "Our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier. This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his 'decision'.... Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there. The self-declared former 'King' will be taking the 'curse' with him down south." Hmmm, bitter-much?

He did offer James a whopping $30 million more than Miami did. But I say good for LeBron for knowing that there's more to life than money (not that he's hurting from missing out on the cash - his endorsements alone are worth tens of millions of dollars).

Gilbert has also personally guaranteed the people of Cleveland that their team will win a championship before the Heat do. If these 2 teams meet in the playoffs, watch out!
